The Southeastern Pennsylvania (SePA) Chapter promotes AACN's Mission, Vision and Values through the collaborative activities of the Research Committee. The Research Committee partners with local universities and community hospitals to promote critical care nursing research by providing financial support, opportunities to disseminate results of nursing research and education on nursing research.
SePA provides up to $4,500/year for critical care nursing research. The grant enables the researcher to develop, implement, analyze and disseminate the research results. Many research studies have received financial support.
At the Annual Research Dinner Meeting, nurse researchers who have received funding from SePA, and nursing master's students from local universities and community hospitals, disseminate the results of their research through formal presentations and the Poster Display. The posters and presentations must demonstrate how the research will have an impact on future practice, education and research. The Research Committee also provides financial support to baccalaureate students to attend the meeting. Additionally, the Research Committee coordinates the Poster Display at our regional conference. This display was initiated about three years ago, starting with the spring conference and is now included in the fall conference.
The Research Committee surveys the chapter membership to tailor our educational programming. As a result of previous surveys, SePA has partnered with several community hospitals around the region to bring monthly educational meetings to their nurses. Research Committee members learn by assisting with the survey. They also learn how to review grant applications by working with doctorally prepared reviewers on the committee.
