Any U.S. licensed registered nurse who is interested in any aspect of critical care nursing and is in good standing with the licensing agency in his/her state or territory is eligible for active membership. Nurses employed in research, administration, teaching, medical-surgical, telemetry or progressive care units, home health, or any healthcare agency are also eligible.

Any LVN or LPN, non-nurse professional, or student in these areas is eligible. Also any healthcare consumer or member of the corporate or political community who is interested in working toward the advancement of a healthcare system driven by the needs of patients is eligible. Affiliate members may not vote, hold office or serve on committees at either the national or chapter level.
Any U.S. citizen (or a non-citizen of the U.S. who resides within the boundaries of the U.S.) who is a student in an accredited, professional nursing program and is currently not licensed as a registered nurse, is eligible. Membership includes all AACN benefits; however student members may not vote, hold office or serve on committees at either the national or chapter level.
Any active member who has maintained active AACN membership for a period of five years or more and is over the age of 55 is eligible. All applications must be submitted with evidence of birth date.
Non-U.S. license. Available to professional nurses who have RN licensure in a country other than the United States. Membership includes all AACN benefits; however, international members may not hold office or serve on committees at the national level.
Any member who has ceased their active practice in nursing by reason of permanent retirement or permanent disability Membership includes all benefits, except retired/disabled members shall not be entitled to vote, hold office, or serve on committees.
Any registered nurse with a valid and current certification credential and who is in good standing with the licensing agency in his/her state or territory is eligible for this specially discounted three- year active membership. Certification will be validated before 3-Year AACN Certification Membership is issued.
