Have you heard about PCCN certification for progressive care nurses who care for acutely ill patients in areas such as telemetry, stepdown, intermediate care, transitional care or direct observation units? For details, check out the PCCN page of our web site or download a copy of the Certification Exam Handbook.

Throughout the history of AACN, our members have led and participated in the journey toward excellence in their individual workplaces. Using AACN standards to guide our practice, we have shared our successes and innovations to encourage each other to become the best that we can be. However, we have never had a way to adequately recognize and acclaim critical care nursing units that achieve the highest quality outcomes. The AACN Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence not only accomplishes that, but will also provide a mechanism for individual units to measure progress against evidence-based, national criteria for excellence, learn and refine processes, and be heralded across the nation for their achievements.

AACN's Healthy Work Environment Initiative is a multi-pronged, multi-year effort to engage nurses, employers and the nursing profession in recognizing the urgency and importance of working collaboratively to improve the environments in which nurses work. If you would like more information on this important initiative, click here . If you would like to download a copy of the initiative, click here.

Although membership in AACN is not a requirement to become active and involved in the Ambassador program, membership benefits do aid and support health care workers both professionally and personally. Be sure to access information on joining or renewing today or utilizing our bulk membership option.

Titled Safeguarding the Patient and the Profession: The Value of Critical Care Nurse Certification, the report puts forth a call to action for all who can influence and will benefit from certified nurses' contributions to patient care. The release of this white paper is a major part of AACN's initiative to raise awareness of the value of nurse certification. Click here to view the press release, the report and reference documents.

The Synergy Model was developed by the AACN Certification Corporation to link certified practice to patient outcomes. The fundamental premise of this model is that patient characteristics drive nurse competencies. When these characteristics and competencies are matched, optimal patient outcomes are realized. The integration of the Synergy Model into AACN CertCorp's credentialing programs puts an emphasis on the patient, and says to the world that patients come first! Nurses make a unique contribution to the quality of patient care, containment of costs, and patient outcomes.
