AACN VOLUNTEER GROUP MEMBERS
JOB DESCRIPTION

Qualifications
  1. Demonstrated knowledge/expertise in area of work to be accomplished by group.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the mission, vision and values of AACN.
  3. Currency in acute and critical care nursing practice, awareness of emerging trends.
  4. Skilled in critical thinking and analysis. Objective in evaluating information and others' ideas.
  5. Upholds the values of the Association.

  1. Strong interpersonal skills, especially group process skills, active listener, articulate, expressive, nurturing, and supportive.
  2. Ability to synthesize and use new and complex information
  3. Innovation and ability to propose creative solution to problems.
  4. Ability to fulfill commitments within the agreed upon timeframes.
Responsibilities
  1. Provide a diversity of expertise and perspective to the group's work.
  2. Assures that membership's perspectives are incorporated into the group's work.
  3. Contributes unique, reality-based experiences with trends and issues in acute and critical care nursing initiatives.
  4. Provide skill and commitment to achieving the group's outcomes, and thus the Association's outcomes.
    • Participate actively in discussion, activities or projects.
    • Respond in a timely manner to requests for action.
    • Review agenda and minutes, provide input, make corrections and approve.
    • Take responsibility for learning, seek clarification as appropriate.
Selection
  1. Volunteer opportunities are published in AACN News, Critical Care News line, on the web site. Members must complete their volunteer profile to be considered for available opportunities.
  2. Profiles are sent to the chairperson, board and staff liaisons that make final selections of group members.
  3. The chairperson or staff liaison notifies members and appropriate announcements are made in AACN publications.
  4. Appointments are "just in time" with beginning and end dates varying.
