Inactive CCRN Status provides current CCRN-certified nurses with an additional three-year eligibility period to meet their recertification requirements. Inactive Status is available to nurses who do not meet the recertification requirements but do not wish to lose their CCRN certification status permanently. Inactive Status allows CCRN-certified nurses additional time, up to three years, from the date of renewal to meet the eligibility requirements. During the time of Inactive Status the CCRN credential may not be used.
If you choose Inactive CCRN Status and then wish to renew your CCRN certification, you must meet all of the established recertification renewal eligibility requirements. Inactive Status does not allow the CCRN-certified nurse six years to meet the requirements (the original recertification period plus the Inactive period). The eligibility requirements must be accrued within a three-year period, with 144 bedside clinical hours accrued in the most recent year preceding renewal. You may meet the eligibility requirements anytime within the three-year Inactive Status period. Your CCRN certification will be reinstated upon submission of a completed CCRN Renewal Application and renewal fee.
You may choose to reactivate anytime prior to the three-year date of expiration. Again, your eligibility requirements must be met within the three-year period just prior to your new active date. To calculate this, count back three years from the new renewal date. (For example, if you submit your reactivation renewal application on June 1, 2005, your new renewal period, within which all clinical hours and CERPs must fall, will be June 1, 2002 through May 30, 2005). You may NOT hold Inactive Status for two consecutive periods.
To request Inactive Status, please complete the front side of the CCRN Renewal Application, select the Inactive Status option and sign in the appropriate location at the top of the page. Include the Inactive Status fee and mail the completed application (front side only) to AACN Certification Corporation, 101 Columbia, Aliso Viejo, CA 92656. Approximately 120 days prior to the end of your Inactive Status period, the AACN Certification Corporation will mail a copy of the current CCRN Renewal Handbook.
